Cardiac Center of Texas is pleased to welcome Cardiologist Venkata S Chilakapati MD, MPH., PhD., FACC (also known as Dr. Chili) to its medical staff. Providing cardiology services full time (24×7) at the Medical Center of Plano and the Medical Center of McKinney, he is available Monday through Friday and sees patients at the Cardiac Center of Texas. Dr. Chilakapati recently moved with his family from Virginia. Dr. Chilakapati believes in long term relationships with patients and provides compassionate care.
Dr. Chilakapati received Fellowships in General Cardiology from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio and Interventional Cardiology from the Carilion Clinic/Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine. He began his education by attaining medical degree from Andhra Medical College, India. Later he received MPH (public health) degree from Western Kentucky University, MS/PhD degrees in Clinical Investigation Sciences from the University of Louisville, Kentucky.
He worked as a staff cardiologist at Salem VA Medical Center, Virginia. He was an Assistant Professor and Associate program Director for Cardiology Fellowship at Salem site for Carilion Clinic/VTC school of Medicine. He trained medical students, medical residents and cardiology fellows at Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine. He served as a site specific principal investigator for multicenter clinical trials and also served as a Vice-chair for Institution Review Board (IRB). He served as a Clinical champion for specialty awareness network (SCAN ECHO program) at Salem VA Medical Center.
He published numerous articles, presented numerous scientific presentations and received multiple awards for his outstanding clinical, research and teaching skills. He is board certified in Internal Medicine (ABIM), Cardiology (ABIM), Interventional Cardiology (ABIM), ECHO Cardiography (NBE), Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC), and Cardiac CT angiography (CBCCT).
He is passionate about getting to know his patients and working with them one on one to help them manage their cardiac conditions. He treats each patient like he would a family member and believes that strong, ongoing relationships are critical to successful long-term positive outcomes.
